Turkish Army's Leopard 2A4 Tanks to Feature Additional T1 Armor
The Turkish Roketsan defense industry's ballistic protection center is modernizing the Turkish Army's Leopard 2A4 tanks with locally produced additional T1 armor. Two upgraded units were transferred to the Turkish Armed Forces back in December 2020, as reported by Razm.info.
According to the specialized Turkish website SavunmaSanayiST, there are plans to upgrade and deliver an additional 40 units of Leopard 2A4 tanks to the army by 2021.
It is noteworthy that in January 2018, against the backdrop of Operation Olive Branch against Kurdish forces in Afrin, Syria, the German government halted the upgrade program for the German-made Leopard tanks in the possession of the Turkish Armed Forces. Following that, the Turkish Roketsan company initiated work on the modernization of these tanks.
Leopard tanks are the main battle tanks of the Turkish army and have also been utilized during Operation Euphrates Shield in northern Syria.
