Trump's Office Provides Details on Impeachment Process
The office of former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that attorneys David Schoen and Bruce Castor Jr. will lead his legal team in the impeachment case, Axios reports.
Trump made the announcement following the departure of two lawyers from his team, Deborah Barbier and Butch Bowers. It has since come to light that three more lawyers have also left Trump, including Josh Howard, who recently joined the team, as well as Johnny Gesser and Greg Harris.
The statement from Trump's office notes that David Schoen has already collaborated with the 45th president and other advisors in preparation for the upcoming trial, asserting that the lawyers consider the impeachment to be unconstitutional.
On January 13, the U.S. House of Representatives impeached Trump by a vote of 232 to 197 on charges of inciting insurrection at the Capitol building.
On January 6, Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, rejecting the results of the November 3 presidential election, in which Democrat Joe Biden emerged victorious, in a bid to prevent the Senate from finalizing the results. The unrest resulted in the deaths of five individuals.
