Erdogan Did Not Meet with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo During His Visit to Turkey
The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, did not meet with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who was visiting Turkey. This information was reported by RIA Novosti, citing a senior representative from the US State Department.
"Both the Secretary and Turkish officials, including Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, I believe, also President Erdogan, would have liked it to happen. In the end, it didn’t occur. Ultimately, it did not happen because President Erdogan's schedule changed, and it was not possible to accommodate the parameters that were laid out for the Secretary's visit," the State Department representative said in an interview with reporters in Istanbul.
It is noted that the text of the briefing was distributed by the State Department. The representative acknowledged the disagreements between the United States and Turkey, but when pressed on what might have upset Erdogan, he responded that the issue was solely about scheduling.
