UN Security Council Rejects US Resolution to Extend Arms Embargo on Iran
The UN Security Council has not adopted the US-proposed resolution to extend the arms embargo on Iran. According to TASS, two countries voted in favor of the resolution: the United States and the Dominican Republic, while Russia and China voted against it, and 11 other countries abstained.
The current arms embargo is set to expire this October. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has repeatedly stated that there are no objective grounds to discuss the extension of the arms embargo on Iran in the UN Security Council. Russian President Vladimir Putin has suggested convening an online summit of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council to discuss the issue of the Iran nuclear deal.
