Community Continues to Control the Situation in Amulsar: Statement
The company that had mining plans in Amulsar is trying to create the impression that it controls the situation, which does not reflect reality. In recent weeks, this company has been unable to access the Amulsar area through the main routes it was granted, and has only sneaked in some cleaners and plumbers through a nearby road to the village of Saravan, who cannot perform any significant work. However, the company is using them to create another unrealistic narrative, likely to present to its investors.
No heavy machinery has entered Amulsar nor will it. The residents of the Jermuk community and conscious citizens of Armenia fighting for Amulsar will never allow any mining in the area. This is our final decision, which is not subject to change.
The Armenian government must take into account the legitimate demands of the majority of residents in Jermuk (as recorded by a referendum and a council decision) and the other citizens of Armenia, and based on the results of the international study it commissioned, revoke the environmental positive conclusion issued by the previous corrupt government in 2016.
