U.S. Attorney Investigating Trump Lawyers Dismissed
The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Jeffrey Berman, who was investigating cases against President Donald Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen and current attorney Rudy Giuliani, has been dismissed from his position. This was reported by the New York Times, citing a statement from the U.S. Department of Justice.
It was announced that on Friday evening, Attorney General William Barr, without prior notice, declared Berman's replacement. According to him, Trump intends to appoint Jay Clayton to Berman's position. Clayton's nomination needs to be confirmed by the Senate.
Meanwhile, Berman has no plans to step down. “I have not resigned and I am not going to step down from the position for which I was appointed by the judges of the U.S. District Court and the Southern District of New York,” he stated.
