Incident in Yerevan Resembles Action Film

On February 26, an incident reminiscent of an action film occurred in Yerevan. Officers from the Main Department of Criminal Police of the Republic of Armenia, acting on operational information, attempted to neutralize 27-year-old Narek Petrosyan near building number 15 on Shinararneri Street around 8:00 PM.

According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, Petrosyan, who has been wanted by the Malatia Police Department since October 11, 2019, under Article 34-104 (attempted murder) and Article 235 (illegal carrying, keeping, or use of weapons) of the RA Criminal Code, fled the scene in his Hyundai vehicle. In the process, he struck and damaged a parked police-licensed Nissan vehicle, as well as Mercedes, Opel, and Mitsubishi cars.

After vandalizing the vehicles, Petrosyan attempted to escape. The photojournalist reported that Petrosyan has been on the run since October 2019 for attempting to commit murder against a relative using a firearm. The police are taking necessary operational-search measures to locate Petrosyan and the Hyundai vehicle he was driving.

On the night of October 2, 2019, between 3:00 AM and 6:30 AM, due to a minor grievance regarding comments made to him, Petrosyan, driven by a compulsion to assert dominance, repeatedly came to the yard of a house belonging to Hovsep Petrosyan at 84/3 Malatia Street and fired numerous shots with an automatic weapon towards H. Petrosyan and his residence, grossly violating public order. On October 5, at about 12:15 AM, Petrosyan called H. Petrosyan and issued threats against his life.

A criminal case was initiated on October 5 at the Malatia Police Department under Part 1 of Article 137, Part 1 of Article 235, and Part 4 of Article 258 of the RA Criminal Code and was transferred from the Malatia Police Department to the Investigative Committee of Armenia’s Malatia-Sebastia administrative district.
