Major Car Accident in Yerevan: Driver Ejected from Vehicle
Today, February 22, a major car accident occurred in Yerevan. Around 15:30, the driver of a "GAZ 53" vehicle with license plate 95 VP 900 lost control at the intersection of Gayi Boulevard, Myasnikyan, and Khudyakov streets under still unknown circumstances, veering off the roadway, colliding with a concrete paving section adjacent to the "Great Wheel" car repair service and "Max Oil" gas station, and subsequently overturning.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan at the scene, the driver, who had ejected himself from the vehicle, received first aid from bystanders before being transported to the number 1 university hospital by an emergency medical team that arrived promptly.
Members of the Road Police's 1st Patrol Battalion, led by Senior Inspector Artak Sargsyan, also arrived at the scene quickly. The responsible on-duty officer of Yerevan's Road Police operational management center, Hakob Mashchyan, informed the investigatory division of the Road Police, from where a duty team arrived led by the division chief Khachik Samvelyan and investigator Gegham Sargsyan. Police are working to ascertain the driver's identity.
The photojournalist reports that the vehicle was being operated as a tow truck and was loaded with a tractor. Before colliding with the paved concrete section, it had already crashed into three other vehicles. After overturning, three gas cylinders installed on the vehicle were dislodged and were hurled about 50 meters away, damaging a Ford vehicle with license plate 36 RS 723.
Emergency services, including a firefighting and rescue squad with two operational units from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, also arrived on the scene, deactivating the vehicles, securing the area, and performing cleanup operations. Employees from the mentioned gas station were among the first to assist the injured.
