Ombudsman's Statement on Henrik Hartenyan's Resignation

The Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, expressed his views regarding the recent events.

“It is commendable that the Yerevan City Council's My Step faction condemned the actions of City Council member Henrik Hartenyan and called for a meeting today in connection with this matter. I particularly emphasize the condemning statements made by the members of the National Assembly, especially by those in the My Step faction regarding this incident.

I must reiterate that targeting an individual's personal and family life is an unacceptable phenomenon, especially in cases involving children, regardless of whether it concerns a public official's family or not. The same applies to the insults and expressions of hate directed at the daughter of the Prime Minister, as recorded by the Human Rights Defender. Such phenomena are absolutely intolerable, especially since in our observation, they are often perpetrated in a way that insults the Prime Minister's daughter by targeting her gender and age.

These phenomena undermine all legal and moral values and endanger harmony within our society.”
