Driver Loses Control and Crashes During Attempt to Avoid Pedestrian
On December 17, a major car accident occurred in the Kotayk region. Around 22:10, 21-year-old German Tejoyan, a resident of Khangah Doni Street in Yerevan, lost control of his VAZ 21124 with license plate 35 XV 241. The incident took place near the former Ministry of Defense building along the Yerevan-Ararat highway, where he veered off the roadway, crashed into metal barriers, broke them, and subsequently collided with a metal pole of a speed camera positioned in the middle of the road.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, the driver received medical assistance on site from promptly arriving doctors but refused to go to the hospital. Emergency services, including a fire and rescue squad from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, arrived at the scene with one combat unit. The firefighters disconnected the vehicle's power supply, shut off the gas cylinder, and cordoned off the area.
Witnesses at the scene heard the driver stating that the accident could have been avoided if a pedestrian had not suddenly appeared in front of his vehicle, causing him to lose control and crash into the speed camera's metal pole.
