Decision to Detain Deputy Minister of Education Gevorg Loretsyan Challenged in Court

The decision of the first instance court to detain Gevorg Loretsyan, the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, has been appealed to the Court of Appeals. This information was confirmed in an interview with "Haykakan Jamanak" by Loretsyan's lawyer, Levon Sahakyan. He added that they currently do not have any updates.

Loretsyan was summoned by the National Security Service (NSS) on December 4 and subsequently arrested on suspicion of receiving a particularly large bribe. Days ago, the Yerevan city court of general jurisdiction approved the pre-trial body's request and ordered his detention in two parts. As is known, Loretsyan is accused of receiving a bribe of particularly large amounts and he denies the charges.

In the meantime, his duties within the ministry have been distributed among other officials. Regarding the suspension of his powers, the press secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Angela Kzhdryan, mentioned in an interview that they have not received such a decision.

It is worth noting that on December 4, Loretsyan's driver and the president of one of the football clubs operating in Armenia were also detained and arrested on similar suspicions of particularly large amounts. The latter is also the de facto leader of several supplying companies.
