Shooting At Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan Border Leaves Casualties
The situation at the border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan has escalated, with gunfire reported on Monday in the border area of the two countries. According to РИА Новости, one person has died and 20 others have been injured.
The State Border Guard Service of Kyrgyzstan has stated that the incident was triggered by the installation of a flagpole in the Tajik village of Vorukh. Residents of the Kyrgyz village of Aksai expressed their opposition, which led to a dispute, after which one side resorted to weaponry.
The government in Dushanbe reported that the conflict began due to the installation of a column marked 'Aksai' in the Tajik territory of Vorukh. 'During a meeting with the population attended by the head of the Border Guard Service and the governor of Batken province, two shots were fired from the Tajik side towards Kyrgyz citizens,' the agency stated.
It should be noted that the underlying cause of the conflict between the two countries is the unmarked areas where it is impossible to determine the boundary line between the two states.
