Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed the declaration made by the leaders of four EAEU member states during the discussion of the government's program for 2026-2031 in the National Assembly.

“We perceive this as a friendly gesture, which we highly appreciate, and I am confident that such a referendum will definitely take place in Armenia. The issue is the timing, but the timing is important not only organizationally but also substantively,” said the Prime Minister, adding that the referendum on joining the EU is not a starting point for this process but rather a significant landmark.

“In other words, the referendum makes sense when the initiated process has reached a certain landmark point, and it is possible to reflect on the realism of those perspectives, to have a roadmap...” he emphasized. He further mentioned that for Armenia to join the EU, it must first submit an application, which is a process that involves extensive work.

“In the near future we need to start the process, especially considering the needs of our EAEU partners,” the Prime Minister stressed. “We will hold a referendum officially after applying to the EU, receiving relevant feedback and having a roadmap regarding the process.”
