Pashinyan Orders Report on Crisis in the Church

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has instructed the preparation of a report regarding what he described as a "profound, systemic crisis" within the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church. He made this announcement during a session of the National Assembly.

Pashinyan stated that the report will present dozens of facts which, according to him, demonstrate that His Holiness Catholicos Karekin II, along with Father Nerses Ktrich, have led the Church "out of canonical bounds," with consequential repercussions.

During Pashinyan's speech, when he referred to Karekin II by his first and last name, members of the “Strong Armenia” and “Armenia” factions protested by banging on their tables, while those from the “Civil Contract” faction applauded.
