Russians Considered Us Brothers, But Life Has Shown We Are Foreigners: Zelensky
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has sent a congratulatory message to citizens on the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence, also reflecting on Russian-Ukrainian relations.
“Russians considered us their younger brothers, but life has shown that we are strangers to each other. All those traits that characterize Ukrainians are foreign to them,” Zelensky stated.
Ukraine declared its independence from the Soviet Union on August 24, 1991.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko also congratulated the Ukrainian people on Independence Day, expressing hope that mutually beneficial cooperation between Minsk and Kyiv will be restored.
