Arpine Sargsyan Comments on Controversial Incident Between Investigators and Police Officer
Armenia is a rule of law state, and the only competent authority to investigate these two incidents should be the Anti-Corruption Committee, which must provide an impartial assessment, said Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan during a press briefing today, addressing the widely publicized incident between investigators and a police officer.
"We are talking about two incidents. The first concerns apparent hooliganism and physical aggression, involving investigators, police officers, and other citizens. Moreover, I should point out that I myself have filed a report regarding this incident. The second episode relates to the apparent torture of a police officer involved in the first incident, for which a report has also been filed," noted the Minister of Internal Affairs.
Commenting on the police officer involved in the incident, Arpine Sargsyan emphasized that the Ministry of Internal Affairs will protect the legal rights and dignity of each police officer with the same diligence as it holds accountable any police officer who breaks the law.
