Tokaev's Party Wins Kazakhstan's Parliamentary Elections
The counting of votes for the new unicameral parliament elections in Kazakhstan has concluded. Five parties have surpassed the five percent threshold, with the ruling 'Adilet' party receiving the overwhelming majority of votes from the electorate.
Seven parties participated in the elections, all of which support the course of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to some extent. Preliminary data shows that the 'Adilet' party has garnered 71.17% of the votes.
In second place is 'Auil' with 6.26%, followed by 'Respublica' with 5.56%. The other parties that have crossed the five percent barrier necessary to enter parliament include 'Ak Zhol' (5.21%) and the People's Social Democratic Party (PSDP) with 5.11%.
A total of 74.08% of eligible voters participated in the elections.
The 'Adilet' party was only established in May 2026 and was registered in June. Shortly after, it merged with the most influential political party in the country, 'Amanat', which is the successor to the 'Otan' party created by Nursultan Nazarbayev in 1999. Until 2022, the first president of Kazakhstan led the party, after which he was succeeded by the current state leader Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Now, the party's leadership states that the aim of merging with the newly founded 'Adilet' is to 'completely rid itself of Nazarbayev's political burden.'
