Who Replaces Armenian Products in the Russian Market?

The import ban on most Armenian products has had no impact on the assortment in Russian stores. According to estimates by the analytical center "Акценты", imports from Armenia have quickly been replaced by Georgian, as well as partially by Azerbaijani products.

“Azerbaijani exports to Russia increased by 3% from January to June, exceeding $608 million (for comparison, during the same period, imports from Georgia amounted to $332 million, while from Armenia it was $1.2 billion). Tomatoes are the main export leader of Azerbaijani agro-products. A total of 136,000 tons worth $164 million have been supplied to Russia. Azerbaijani exporters’ profits have increased by 10% against the backdrop of the absence of Armenian vegetables in the market.

Berries: In June and July (at the peak of Armenia's seasonal embargo), the gross income from stone fruits in Azerbaijan exceeded $40 million. A record flow of Azerbaijani trucks carrying cherries, berries, nectarines, and peaches has been registered through the checkpoints in Dagestan.

Apples: A total of 48,000 tons worth $39 million have been exported. Despite a slight decrease in volumes (minus 5.4%) due to May frosts and rising prices in Central Russia, Azerbaijani revenues increased by nearly 10%.

Fish and Seafood: Azerbaijan has significantly increased its presence in the fish sector, where Armenia used to hold strong positions by supplying lake perch and catfish. Since the beginning of 2026, Russia has imported 43% more seafood from Azerbaijan.

Juices and Non-Alcoholic Beverages: Following the cessation of supplies of Armenian juices, mineral waters, and nectars, Azerbaijani factories have occupied the vacated niches in Russian supermarkets. During the first half of the year, supplies of ready-to-drink packaged juice products from Azerbaijan have increased by 14%.

Textiles: While Armenia used to supply ready-made knitted clothing to Russia, Azerbaijan has become the main supplier of raw materials for the Russian textile industry. Russian factories are massively switching to Azerbaijani cotton due to a 15% increase in cultivation areas in the republic. Meanwhile, the physical volume of Azerbaijani yarn exports has already doubled in the first half of the year,” the publication from the analytical center "Акценты" states.
