I Am Responsible, We Haven't Found a Solution Yet: Pashinyan on Military Deaths
85-90% of suicide cases in the military are related to three main situations: personal issues, criminal subculture, and the isolation and psychological pressure faced by a serviceman due to sleeping while on combat duty. This was stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
He clarified that sleeping while on combat duty puts the lives of other servicemen at risk. However, after such incidents, the serviceman may face contempt, isolation, and psychological pressure.
“In many cases, we mention the criminal subculture but do not delve into what that practically means. 85-90% of suicide cases in the military are linked to these three situations,” Pashinyan said.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the responsibility for the problem should not rest solely on the military leadership.
“I bear the guilt that we have not yet found a solution to this problem,” he stated.
Pashinyan noted that to overcome the issue, it is necessary to pay attention to students' physical and psychological preparation and worldview expansion from school onward. He also highlighted the importance of fostering a supportive atmosphere in the military.
“We need to operate on the logic of mutual assistance, not isolation,” the Prime Minister noted.
