Citizen Arrested for Posts on Facebook Platform
The Investigative Committee of Armenia has initiated a criminal investigation in Yerevan, where apparent factual data has been collected indicating that on May 12, 2026, an individual identified as A.A. used information and communication technologies to publish a video on their Facebook page that included statements inciting hatred, discrimination, intolerance, and animosity.
The Investigative Committee reports that public criminal prosecution has been initiated against A.A. under Article 329, part 2, clause 3 of the Criminal Code (public speeches aimed at inciting or promoting hatred, discrimination, intolerance, or animosity, as well as the dissemination of materials or objects for that purpose through publicly displayed works, mass media, or the use of information and communication technologies).
During the course of the criminal investigation, A.A. has been arrested, and a motion has been filed with the court to apply detention as a measure of restraint.
