Are There Cases of Hantavirus Infections in Turkey?
Three Turkish passengers from the tourist ship 'MV Hondius', suspected of having 'Hantavirus', have been evacuated to Istanbul and are under quarantine surveillance. Under the coordination of Turkey's Ministry of Health, these citizens were transported back home via a special flight and have been isolated.
It has also been reported that during preliminary health examinations, no symptoms of the virus were detected; however, specialists continue to monitor their condition considering the incubation period of the 'Hantavirus'.
It should be noted that this health crisis in Turkey began following a death and suspicious illness cases reported during a voyage from Argentina. The evacuation operation was carried out in the Canary Islands of Spain under strict safety measures.
The 'Hantavirus' is an illness transmitted by rodents that can lead to severe respiratory and kidney complications.
