VIDEO: ID Cards Mandatory for Those Over 16, Proposes Interior Minister
The Ministry of Internal Affairs proposes to make ID cards mandatory for individuals who have turned 16. This was announced by Interior Minister Arpine Sanosyan during an extraordinary session of the National Assembly, where she presented a package of amendments to the Law on Identification Documents and related laws in the first reading.
"This is important in the sense that we want to consider the ID card as the main document in circulation for domestic operations, which will allow for much smoother access to public services," said Sanosyan.
For individuals aged 6 to 16, there will be an option to obtain an ID card based on the principle of voluntary expression, while for those under 6, the birth certificate will be considered an identification document.
According to the Interior Minister, the adoption of this package will bring Armenia closer to visa liberation with the EU.
