How Long Will Current 'Blue Passports' Be Valid for Armenian Citizens
Today, some clarifications on frequently raised questions have been made. The current 'blue passports' for Armenian citizens will remain valid until their expiration date. At the same time, citizens are free to apply for and receive a new biometric passport at any time.
This was stated by Nelli Davtyan, head of the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. 'When receiving a new passport, the previous passports held by the citizen will be rendered invalid, as a person cannot simultaneously possess more than one passport. A biometric passport does not mean that the document will simply have an electronic carrier (chip).'
Armenia has now begun the process of signing the ICAO special toolkit (PKD) document, where countries exchange digital data on passport security. This forms a 'trust network' that allows other countries to quickly verify whether the crossing document is real, enhancing the safety and speed of border control, and facilitating international movement for citizens,” she wrote.
