Meeting between Alen Simonian and Gafarova Held in Istanbul
Within the framework of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, a bilateral meeting took place on April 17 in Istanbul between the speakers of the parliaments of Armenia and Azerbaijan. It was noted that during the meeting, the recent developments in the context of normalizing relations between the two countries were positively acknowledged, including steps aimed at strengthening peace and stability, as well as establishing and expanding trade ties.
"The role of the Inter-Parliamentary Union as an important platform for inter-parliamentary cooperation was emphasized. In this context, the parties highly appreciated and expressed gratitude to the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Martin Chungong, for his personal efforts in facilitating dialogue between the speakers of the parliaments of Armenia and Azerbaijan," stated the official communiqué.
The speakers evaluated positively the communications between parliamentary delegations within international organizations that began after their meeting in Geneva in October 2025, and they agreed to continue those communications. The speakers of the parliaments of Armenia and Azerbaijan highlighted the importance of continuing constructive parliamentary dialogue to further strengthen trust between the two societies," the official statement added.
