Minister of Internal Affairs on the Visa Liberalization Process

Armenia is ready for visa liberalization in a manner that has already entered a dialogue phase with partners, having the intent to initiate discussions on visa liberalization and to carry out all measures that will be important for partners to bring this process to a logical conclusion. This was stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Arpine Sahakyan, during a press conference with the EU Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner.

The minister recalled that, in this context, the biometric system in Armenia will be operational by the autumn of 2026, when citizens will begin to receive biometric passports.

“Why is this an important reform? Because we are dealing with the process related to a person's identity, and it is crucial that both Armenia and the EU have clarity regarding the movement of individuals within the framework of human mobility, enabling us to identify identity fraud,” she stated.

The minister also pointed out that the universal health insurance system plays an important role in ensuring the correct utilization of the opportunities provided by visa liberalization.
