Opposition MP in Azerbaijan Refuses to Testify Amid Coup Allegations
The leader of the Popular Front Party in Azerbaijan, Ali Kerimli's defense committee has issued a statement demanding the immediate release of the opposition figure and other political prisoners. Local media outlets report that the Committee claims the criminal case against him is politically motivated and calls on international organizations to respond more actively to the situation and organize protests.
Kerimli was arrested in November 2025 along with his advisor Mamed Ibrahim. They are accused of actions aimed at violently changing the constitutional order.
Ali Kerimli refuses to testify, stating that the charges against him are groundless. Co-chair of the defense committee, Jamil Hasanli, emphasized that the opposition politician has faced persecution for many years.
