New York City's Mayor Declares State of Emergency Due to Snowstorm
New York City Mayor Zohra Mamdani has declared a state of emergency due to an anticipated heavy snowstorm. The decision entails that from the evening of February 22 until noon on February 23, highways will be closed to traffic, schools will suspend operations, and special heating centers will be activated across the city to ensure the safety of residents.
According to forecasts from the National Weather Service, the city may experience around 18 inches of snowfall, while wind gusts could exceed 80 miles per hour (about 26 meters per second), creating dangerous conditions.
