Chief Accountant of Aragatsotn Diocese Released from House Arrest: Lawyer
The chief accountant of the Aragatsotn Diocese, Naira Alaverdyan, has been released from house arrest.
This information comes from lawyer Marine Farmanyan's Facebook page.
"Judge Manvel Shahverdyan of the Yerevan Court of First Instance rejected the investigator's request to extend the duration of house arrest. The court has recorded that there is a lack of grounds for keeping Naira Alaverdyan under house arrest; therefore, the applied restrictive measure of house arrest is subject to cancellation," wrote the lawyer.
It is worth noting that on the morning of October 15, law enforcement officials conducted a search at the residence of Bishop Mkrtich Proshyan, the head of the Aragatsotn Diocese, and subsequently took him into custody. Alongside the bishop, 12 priests and staff members of the diocese were also detained.
