Netanyahu Declares Recognition of the Armenian Genocide
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared for the first time that he recognizes the genocide of Armenians, Assyrians, and Greeks by the Ottoman Empire. In response to Patrick Bet-David's question about why Israel has not recognized the Armenian Genocide, Netanyahu stated, 'I believe the Knesset has passed a resolution regarding this, although it has not been adopted as law.'
When asked why no Israeli Prime Minister has done this before, Netanyahu replied, 'I just did.'
Additionally, Aram Hamparian, the executive director of the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA), stated that Netanyahu's recognition of the Armenian Genocide is merely a 'strategic camouflage,' unless it is followed by the severance of the military alliance with Azerbaijan and pressure on Turkey to cease its denial. Hamparian emphasized that 'it is impossible to recognize the Armenian Genocide while continuing to support Baku in the ethnic cleansing of Artsakh and violations of international law.'
