The Issue of Garegin II's Resignation Remains on Our Agenda, Says Papoyan
The ruling Civil Contract faction in Armenia does not remove the question of the resignation of His Holiness Garegin II, the Supreme Patriarch of All Armenians, from its agenda. This was stated by the Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, during a press briefing.
Papoyan assured that nothing has been taken off the agenda of the ruling party. “It is impossible to be a follower of the Armenian Apostolic Church and reconcile with the idea that the entire elite or most of it has issues related to clerical vows,” said Papoyan.
It should be noted that breaking the vow of celibacy is not a criminal offense; therefore, uncovering personal life facts about clergy raises concerns about the ineffective use of state resources and intervention in personal life.
