Azerbaijan's Airspace Open for Civilian Aircraft Flying from Armenia
Azerbaijan's airspace is theoretically open for civilian aircraft flying from Armenia; however, such flights do not actually take place. This was stated by the Armenian Civil Aviation Committee in response to a query from Sputnik Armenia.
The agency noted that since the start of flights of Azerbaijani civilian aircraft over Armenian airspace along the Baku-Nakhchivan route in 2022, the airspace of both countries has been open for the use of civil aircraft. Exceptions are made for situations conditioned by military status, which arise from safety considerations for flights and apply to all airlines without any discrimination, according to the provisions of the Chicago Convention.
“Based on the above, theoretically, Azerbaijan's airspace is open for Armenian civil aircraft; however, in practice, Armenian aircraft operators do not conduct flights through this area, which is due to their internal decisions,” the statement reads.
