Hovik Abrahamyan Arrested

Former Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan has been arrested, according to reports from the Anti-Corruption Committee.

Abrahamyan is charged with several offenses, including money laundering, abuse of official powers, and illegal participation in unlawful entrepreneurship.

Media reports indicate that a search is currently being conducted at Abrahamyan's residence.

It should be noted that Abrahamyan was previously charged in April 2023. According to the case materials, while holding various positions (MP, Mayor of Ararat, Governor of Ararat, Minister of Territorial Administration, Deputy Prime Minister, Chief of Staff to the President, Speaker of the National Assembly, Prime Minister), he made a transaction that resulted in an income of 230.4 million drams (approximately $590,000) from 2008 to 2015.

Recall that Hovik Abrahamyan served as Prime Minister of Armenia from 2014 to 2016 and was also the Speaker of the National Assembly from 2012 to 2014.
