Large Number of Hotels Closing in Antalya
The Turkish authorities have announced that the operations of 174 out of 294 hotels located in the central part of Antalya have been temporarily suspended. The hotels that have been closed did not pass fire safety inspections and failed to rectify violations within the stipulated time frame.
The inspections were carried out at the directive of the Antalya governor and at the request of the ministry following a series of incidents, including a major fire at the 'Grand Kartal' hotel in January 2025.
These typically involve smaller hotels or guesthouses that are not required to meet the full range of criteria for fully licensed hotels. However, they are still obligated to adhere to essential safety standards, including fire safety measures.
The list of closed establishments has not been published, and it remains unclear whether the measures pertain to any well-known or chain hotels.
