India Reopens Airports for Pakistan Amid Tensions
India has reopened 32 airports in the northern and western regions of the country, which were previously closed due to escalating tensions with Pakistan, reports News18. Indian Ministry of Defence representative Sunil Barthwal stated that the Line of Control between India and Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a quiet night, with no reports of incidents.
“There have been no reports of incidents; this is the first quiet night we have had in recent days,” he said.
Earlier, Indian authorities announced the closure of 32 out of the country’s 487 airports amid rising tensions with Pakistan. The Airports Authority of India and relevant aviation authorities issued several notifications to pilots indicating that these airports in northern and western India would be temporarily closed for all civilian flights due to operational issues between May 9 and May 14, 2025.
Notably, the tensions were ignited following an attack on a group of tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. India has accused the militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba of the attack and has also indicated the involvement of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence.
