EU Countries Again Oppose New Visa Restrictions on Russia
Several countries within the European Union have expressed their opposition to the European Commission's proposal to impose new visa restrictions on Russian citizens, including participants in military operations against Ukraine. This was announced by the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kalas.
According to her, the issue was discussed during an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Ireland, but some countries continue to resist the proposed restrictions.
During the meeting, the ministers also examined the possibility of seizing Russian sovereign assets, yet once again, they failed to reach a consensus on this matter.
The initiative to establish new visa restrictions on Russia had previously been debated during the preparation of the EU's 21st sanctions package, but member states did not support the proposal then either.
