Armenia Urged to Choose Between EU and EAEU, Says Overchuk
Armenia should conduct a referendum to definitively decide whether it wants to align with the European Union or remain a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). This was stated by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk in an interview with Vesti.
According to him, this position has been presented to the Armenian authorities within the framework of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council. “Leaders of the four countries share the view that Armenia should hold a referendum and determine where it wants to be—within the EU or the EAEU. There is a good understanding in Armenia that it is impossible to be a member of both the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union simultaneously, due to differences in regulations. Therefore, it would be appropriate to hold a referendum and decide where they want to be,” Overchuk stated.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin invited Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to Moscow to discuss matters related to Armenia's choice between the EU and EAEU.
