It Sometimes Seemed They Would Soon Cross into Baku: Vahagn Aleksanyan
Alen Simonian's statement is not divisive, as it was directed towards specific individuals: a "group of 15-20 people who are well known to the residents of Artsakh." This was stated by Vahagn Aleksanyan, a deputy from the ruling Civil Contract party, in an interview with Radio Free Europe.
"It is about the fact that when the Armenian authorities called on the authorities of Artsakh to go negotiate in Sofia, so that an Artsakh journalist wouldn't come to the Armenian parliament to ask us when I will return to Artsakh: the National Assembly of Nagorno-Karabakh was accepting such texts, making statements that sometimes it seemed they would soon cross into Baku, and those were the kind of statements they adopted. They called us Turks, traitors, and so on. We said, ‘Dear people, say whatever you want about us, but go negotiate for the sake of those people.’ We were told that there is someone here who's keeping us safe, that we wouldn't be touched by a finger. What happened? The millions of dollars worth of weapons bought with the taxes of the people of the Republic of Armenia and Artsakh were left to Azerbaijan, with little jails on top, oil on top, polished, and yet there is audacity after that to do something,’ said Aleksanyan.
According to him, Alen Simonian's statement is not divisive, as it was aimed at a specific group of people: the "15-20 individuals known well by the residents of Artsakh."
"If Samvel Shahramanyan wants to understand what particularly humiliates the struggle of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, let them take a look around them, let them look at their assets, let them see the condition of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, and understand. They should think about how it is that so many people are left without shelter, while their close circle is now among the major developers in the Republic of Armenia. I believe that the law on the confiscation of illegal property should address these groups as soon as possible," he said.
