Another Tough Statement from CSTO Regarding Armenia

Armenia is de facto not participating in the discussions of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), yet de jure remains a member of the union. This was stated by CSTO Secretary-General Stanislav Zas in an interview with TASS.

"You know, we have been discussing this issue for a long time. De facto, as of today, Armenia is not participating in discussions regarding CSTO issues, de facto Armenia is not sending its employees, military personnel, and CSTO secretariat staff to quota positions, and for the third year now, Armenia has not been paying its membership fees. But de jure they remain members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization," he noted.

According to the Secretary-General, Armenia has made a significant contribution to the development of the CSTO, and the Armenian people have supported all initiatives of the country’s leadership at various periods.

Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated from the parliamentary podium that he is in favor of withdrawing the republic from the CSTO and would be satisfied if this happens. He indicated that it would free Yerevan from the dilemma of whether to withdraw from the organization or not.
