Changes in the Dairy Sector: Details

An initiative has been proposed to regulate the requirements for the separation of shelves during the sale of dairy products, defining color differentiation. For dairy products without milk fat, the separated shelf must be green, while for milk fat substitutes, it should be orange.

The Deputy Minister of Economy, Tatevik Sargsyan, presented a package of legislative proposals aimed at amending the Law on Trade and Services and the Administrative Offenses Code during the first reading.

Provisions regarding voluntary color stickers will be established, relating to the identification of locally produced animal origin products and raw materials in trade objects and venues. Accordingly, a veterinary certificate or label of local animal origin products and raw materials from slaughterhouses must be displayed in a visible location for consumers, thereby enabling the identification of the origin of the products or raw materials.

According to the reporter, operators may voluntarily label their products with green or orange colors. The meeting chair, MP Narek Ghahramanyan, reminded that the vote on the proposal had been postponed for further discussion. The initiative was discussed in the Permanent Committee on Economic Affairs during the meeting on January 15 and received a positive conclusion.
