Turkey Ready to Discuss Troop Withdrawal from Syria, Lavrov
The Turkish side is prepared to discuss the issue of troop withdrawal from Syria, but so far, no agreement has been reached on the specific parameters of this process. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in an interview for the RT television channel documentary 'Bridges to the East.'
“The Turks are ready for this, but until now, the specific parameters have not been agreed upon. We are talking about the return of refugees and the measures necessary to combat the terrorist threat, which would render the presence of Turkish troops unnecessary,” noted the Russian Foreign Minister.
He explained that, in the view of the Syrian government, it is necessary to make a “clear decision regarding the procedural framework for the final withdrawal of Turkish troops from the Syrian Arab Republic” in order to normalize relations with Istanbul.
