Putin Proposes Creation of a New Security System in Eurasia
A new security structure is necessary in the Eurasian continent. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting with the leadership of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"It is time to start a broad discussion on a new system of bilateral and multilateral security guarantees in Eurasia. In the long term, this should lead to a gradual cessation of the military presence of external powers in the Eurasian region," the president said.
This future security architecture is “open to NATO and EU countries.” Putin added that it is necessary to establish dialogue with potential participants, and the issue will be discussed with open states.
If Europe wishes to position itself as one of the autonomous centers of development, it must indeed have good, amicable relations with Russia. "And we, primarily, are ready for that," Putin noted.
According to the president, this was the subject of discussions by Charles de Gaulle and Helmut Kohl. "I expect that a new generation of European politicians will return to that legacy," the president stated.
There are "deep systemic changes occurring in the world," which instills "optimism and hope." "The establishment of multipolarity and the principles of multilateralism in international affairs, including respect for international law, broad representation, allows us to solve the most complex problems in the common interest," Putin said.
