Scientists announce that they have achieved success in genetic editing trials of dogs aimed at creating animals that do not elicit allergic reactions in humans. Researchers at Kindred Companion Sciences have utilized CRISPR gene-editing technology to deactivate the main gene responsible for the production of allergy-causing proteins.

The modified genetic material was transferred into ovum, which were then implanted into a surrogate mother's organism. As a result, two beagle puppies named Alfie and Bailey were born at the end of 2024. According to scientists, the primary allergy-causing protein has not been detected in their saliva and fur.

However, researchers point out that this gene is not the only factor that can trigger allergies, so it is still too early to say whether these dogs are completely hypoallergenic. Scientists are currently monitoring the long-term effects of the genetic modification and plan to apply the same technology to other dog breeds.
