Shortage of Electricity Anticipated in Ukraine for Winter
New Patriot missile defense systems will be necessary to ensure Ukraine's security while the energy system restoration process is ongoing. This was reported by Reuters on June 13, citing Ukraine's Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko.
According to him, the country will not have enough electricity during the cold winter months due to damage to Ukraine's energy sector.
"We are five months away from winter. If we cannot defend ourselves now, we will be unable to carry out repairs. Only 50% of the remaining production capacities operational is not enough to survive the winter," he emphasized.
Halushchenko noted that Kyiv will require approximately 10 Patriot missile defense systems in the near future, as the restoration efforts of the energy system will be meaningless without reliable protection.
