U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order aimed at combating what is known as 'birth tourism.' This refers to instances where foreigners travel to the U.S. to give birth to a child, thereby securing American citizenship for the newborn.

According to Trump, an entire business has formed around this phenomenon, and he claims that hundreds of thousands of people have taken advantage of this opportunity.

The U.S. President also signed a second executive order expanding the list of individuals whose children will no longer automatically receive U.S. citizenship. This list particularly includes 'foreign enemies,' members of foreign terrorist organizations, as well as the children of diplomats and employees of international organizations.

Trump stated that the previous decision was 'very unsuccessful' and expressed confidence that the more stringent restrictions this time would withstand constitutional scrutiny.

It is worth noting that the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, adopted in 1868, guarantees citizenship rights to individuals born in the U.S. In June 2026, the U.S. Supreme Court deemed Trump's earlier decision illegal, but he has once again signed the executive order and sent it for review.
