Wrestling Federation to Re-examine Controversial Match from Recent Baku Tournament
Following a protest lodged by the Italian Wrestling Federation, the United World Wrestling (UWW) is set to re-examine the controversial match that took place during a recent tournament in Baku, reports La Repubblica.
In the tournament where finalists earned Olympic berths for Paris, Italian freestyle wrestler Frank Chamizo, competing in the 74 kg category, faced Azerbaijani wrestler Turan Bayramov in the semifinals. While five referees ruled in favor of the Italian at the match's conclusion, the head of the referee panel overturned their decision, awarding the victory to the Azerbaijani.
Post-match, the federation will also investigate Chamizo's claim that he was offered $300,000 to lose the bout.
