The spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, has responded to the statements made by the Secretary of the Armenian Security Council, Alen Simonyan.

“In Moscow, attention has been drawn to an interview with A. R. Simonyan, recently appointed as Secretary of the Armenian Security Council, by a media outlet openly hostile to Russia. While serving as the Speaker of the National Assembly, he regularly made double statements, including regarding Russian-Armenian relations. This time, in a live broadcast with a foreign agent journalist, the newly appointed Secretary of the Security Council succumbed to a deliberately provocative question, which embroiled him in speculation regarding the possible mobilization in our country, instigated by the Ukrainian junta and its Western sponsors, which has been repeatedly denied by Russian officials. Unfortunately, it has been noted that the trend of disseminating public statements by representatives of official Yerevan that disrupt bilateral cooperation with Moscow continues. The statements by A. R. Simonyan are classified as provocative. Essentially, they encourage Russian citizens to engage in illegal actions and cast a poisonous political hue over traditional Armenian hospitality.

In A. R. Simonyan's aforementioned comments, who actively spoke about the importance of developing Russian-Armenian ties during his visit to Russia in February 2026 (including for Armenia), there is visible evidence of the authorities' desire to please the West and the Kyiv regime,” Zakharova stated.
