VIDEO: The First Person with a Brain Chip Demonstrates How He Plays Chess Using Mind Power
The first patient with a brain implant from Elon Musk's neurotechnology company Neuralink has showcased his progress by demonstrating how he plays chess. The game was streamed on the company's page on X.
29-year-old Nolan Arbon states that he has been paralyzed for nearly eight years following an unfortunate accident, which has left him without feeling from the shoulders down. Now, he can move the cursor on his notebook screen to rearrange the chess pieces using only the power of his mind. According to Arbon, he plays computer games in intervals to recharge the device.
"It's not perfect yet, there's still a lot of work to be done, but my life has already changed," he said.
On January 28, Neuralink implanted its first device into a human brain. The Neuralink startup was founded by Musk in July 2016 and is developing chips that may ultimately be implanted in the human brain. Musk believes that such neural interfaces will allow humans to become cyborgs capable of coping with artificial intelligence, and will also help people learn to directly control computers using mental force.
