At the polling station established at the Russian Embassy in Armenia, the line of those wishing to vote stretches all the way to Yerevan City Hall. Footage recorded by a Sputnik Armenia correspondent shows that the queue of people waiting to cast their votes extends approximately 250 meters.
Russian citizens residing in Armenia have arrived at the diplomatic mission since early morning to fulfill their civic duty in the presidential elections of Russia. The polling stations opened at 8:00 AM and will operate until 8:00 PM.
It was earlier reported that there are 5 polling stations operating within the territory of Armenia for the Russian presidential elections today: 2 in Yerevan (1 in the diplomatic mission area and 1 at an airbase) and 3 in Gyumri (at the Russian consulate and the 102nd military base). Early voting took place from March 11-13 in the Syunik region.
According to embassy staff, the voter lists include not only those Russian citizens who are permanently residing in Armenia but also approximately 4,600 individuals who have received special permission from Russia to vote in Yerevan.
It should be noted that presidential elections in Russia are set to occur from March 15. Voting will last three days for the first time. Four candidates are registered by the Russian CEC for the position of president: Leonid Slutsky, Nikolai Kharitonov, Vladislav Davankov, and Vladimir Putin.
