Gazprom Begins Connecting Two Major Gas Pipelines in Eastern Russia
Gazprom has started the process of connecting the "Power of Siberia" and "Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok" major gas pipelines, according to a company announcement. These pipelines will be linked via the Belogorsk-Khabarovsk gas pipeline, reports RBC.
According to the company, this gas pipeline is the first phase of the "Eastern Gas Supply System" project, which aims for the comprehensive development of gas infrastructure in eastern Russia and the integration of western gas capacities.
"This will provide additional reliability and flexibility in gas supply for domestic consumers, as well as open new opportunities for the development of gasification in the Siberian and Far Eastern regions," emphasized Gazprom.
The "Power of Siberia" is a main gas pipeline over 3,000 km long, transporting gas from the Koviktinskoye field in Irkutsk region and the Chayandinskoye field in Yakutia to Russian consumers in the Far East and China. The pipeline traverses areas in Irkutsk, Yakutia, and Amur regions, with an export capacity of 38 billion cubic meters per year.
