Scholz Excludes Supply of Taurus Missiles to Kyiv: Reason Revealed
The Taurus air-launched cruise missiles are among the weaponry that require the presence of German military personnel for their control, making their supply to Ukraine impossible. This was stated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
“Since it is crucial not to lose control over its use, it will not be used without the deployment of German soldiers. I reject that option,” said the chancellor.
He reminded that Germany ranks second in the provision of military assistance to Ukraine, following the United States. However, Scholz clarified that each case of assistance delivery is considered by the German authorities on an individual basis. “Prudence is not weakness, as some may think. Prudence is what our country's residents have the right to expect,” the chancellor added.
Scholz had previously repeatedly refused the supply of Taurus missiles to Ukraine, although calls for transferring the missiles to Kyiv had been voiced within the ruling coalition and among the German opposition.
